He has been an active Climbing Wall Association member since 2010 serving on the CWA’s Leadership Workshop Advisory Group, Summit Selection and Industry Standards Committees. He has also volunteered as an access coordinator for the Carver Climbing Club. Michele Lang - Vice-Chairperson
Bainbridge Island, WA
Michele Lang is the owner and CEO of Insight Climbing & Movement. Prior to opening a climbing gym in 2013, Michele held leadership positions in large corporations, nonprofits, and start-ups in fields including software engineering, organic farming, and outdoor apparel. Outside the gym, she can be found soaking up time with her two teenage daughters, working towards certification as a mindfulness meditation teacher, and spending as much time as possible backpacking, paddling, climbing and biking on the Olympic Peninsula.
Mattie Wheeler - Secretary
Seattle, WA
Mattie is the Director of Instruction and Programming, Covid-19 Response Coordinator, and Office 365 Manager for Vertical World Inc. Her love for rock climbing was instantaneous in 1999 when she first stepped foot in Vertical World Seattle, knowing she wanted to climb for the rest of her life. In addition to her intrinsic passion for rock climbing, Mattie has set out to make the most in life through learning, exploring, and sharing quality time with others. Recently she has reinvested in her passion for cooking, continued to foster her foraging skills, and just finished building her own home from the ground up with her life partner and three cats.
Tod Bloxham - Treasurer
Tacoma, WA
Tod Bloxham is the owner of Edgeworks Climbing and Stone Gardens. Tod has been active in the outdoor industry since 1994 in various roles from retail, buying, product design, sales, and marketing. In 2004 he founded Edgeworks Climbing, a climbing gym with a focus on modern operations, marketing, climbing school and guiding and continual reinvestment in both facilities and employees. Tod’s focus within the climbing industry has included software, as the CEO and co-owner of Rock Gym Pro (until 2018), providing software and support to the majority of climbing gyms worldwide. When not working in or with climbing gyms, Tod is an IFMGA mountain guide, guiding and instructing and skiing, as well as chasing around the northwest with his wife and two daughters in pursuit of new adventures.
Dave Haavik - Board Member
Seattle, WA
My family was always very into the outdoors, camping hiking, backpacking, fishing, etc. In 1980 I began climbing with my father. He gave me some great advice at some point, he said “figure out what you like to do in life and then figure out how to make a living doing it”. Good advice. I started working in the Outdoor Industry at the Swallows’ Nest in Seattle in 1983. There were a few various jobs after that with Sundog, The North Face and The Vertical World. In 1993 I started my sales career with Petzl. I don’t really have any spare time because I fill what time I have with parenting, hiking, skiing, biking, listening to and playing music, gardening, etc.
